The beauty of Gran Canaria

Explore Gran Canaria’s Diverse Terrain on Foot
Gran Canaria is a hiker’s paradise—often called a “miniature continent” because of its remarkable variety in landscapes. From golden sand dunes to misty pine forests, rugged mountains, and dramatic cliffs, the island offers endless hiking possibilities for every level. The best way to experience this natural richness is on foot, far from the busy resorts.

The island’s network of well-marked trails takes you through ever-changing scenery shaped by microclimates and volcanic forces. Expect to hike across high-altitude ridges, through fertile valleys, and past ancient cave dwellings and remote hamlets.

Roque Nublo – The Iconic Heart of the Island
One of Gran Canaria’s most famous hiking destinations is Roque Nublo, a 67-meter-high volcanic rock that towers above the central highlands. Reaching this spiritual symbol of the island is a must-do for hikers. The panoramic views from the top stretch across rugged terrain and even to neighboring islands on clear days.

The area around Roque Nublo offers multiple trails through dramatic ravines, fragrant pine forests, and wide plateaus—making it ideal for both short hikes and challenging treks.

Discover Hidden Valleys, Coastal Trails & Wild Nature
While many know Gran Canaria for its southern beaches, the true soul of the island lies in its interior and northern coast. Hike through ancient laurel forests in the north, explore terraced farmlands in the Agaete Valley, or walk along steep cliffs above the Atlantic in the west.

Whether you’re an experienced trekker or prefer scenic day hikes, Gran Canaria has something for you. Highlights include:

  • The Camino de Santiago (Canary version) – from Maspalomas to Gáldar
  • Tamadaba Natural Park – pine forests, high viewpoints, and hidden canyons
  • Barranco de Guayadeque – a green ravine with cave houses and rich biodiversity
  • Pico de las Nieves – the highest point on the island with 360° views

Where Adventure Meets Authentic Culture
Gran Canaria’s hiking trails are dotted with authentic villages, local markets, and centuries-old traditions. During your hikes, you’ll pass shepherds, stone terraces, and perhaps even spot endemic wildlife like the Gran Canaria blue chaffinch.

Combine your hiking adventure with local flavors—try traditional Canarian dishes, stay in rural accommodations, and discover the cultural soul of this extraordinary island.
