The beauty of Lanzarote

Explore Lanzarote’s Unique Landscape on Foot
Lanzarote is a dream destination for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Shaped by centuries of volcanic activity, the island offers a dramatic and ever-changing landscape that’s best explored on foot. Hiking across lava fields, climbing craters, and walking along rugged coastal trails give you a deep connection with nature that’s impossible to experience by car alone.

The contrast between black volcanic rock and the deep blue Atlantic Ocean provides unforgettable hiking scenery—ideal for photographers, nature lovers, and active travelers.

Timanfaya National Park – A Must-See for Hikers
One of the most iconic hiking areas is Timanfaya National Park, known for its lunar-like terrain. While most of the park is protected, several guided trails allow you to safely explore rust-red volcanic slopes, steaming geothermal zones, and ancient lava flows. Walking here feels like stepping onto another planet.

Coastal Walks & Hidden Trails
Lanzarote is not just about volcanoes. The island also features spectacular coastal paths, desert-like plains, and green valleys. You can hike from dramatic cliffs to secluded coves, or walk through whitewashed villages surrounded by palm trees. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced hiker, there are trails to match every level.

Highlights include:

  • La Geria wine region – hike through vineyards growing in volcanic ash
  • The north coast – great ocean views and natural pools
  • Caldera Blanca – a panoramic trail around an enormous volcanic crater

Where Nature Meets Culture: The Manrique Influence
Your hiking adventure is enriched by the legacy of César Manrique, Lanzarote’s iconic artist and architect. His projects—like Jameos del Agua and Mirador del Río—are seamlessly integrated into the natural landscape, often located near scenic walking routes. These cultural highlights offer peaceful breaks during your active holiday.

Multi-day trek

De GR131 Camino Natural Lanzarote

The GR131 trail on Lanzarote offers an unforgettable hiking experience through some of the island’s most dramatic and varied landscapes. Starting in the lush and rugged north, you’ll trek past the imposing Corona Volcano, climbing to the highest point on the island. From here, enjoy sweeping panoramic views that stretch across the volcanic terrain all the way to the Atlantic Ocean.

As you descend, the landscape changes dramatically—transforming into a unique pattern of volcanic cones and craters. This surreal terrain, often compared to a waffle pan, is where Lanzarote’s renowned wines are cultivated in volcanic soil. It’s a hiking route unlike any other in the world, combining physical challenge with cultural and natural discovery.

Whether you’re completing the full GR131 across the Canary Islands or focusing just on the Lanzarote section, this route promises pure hiking magic.

The GR131 Lanzarote is the first island of the long distance route.

In the north of Lanzarote, the GR131 starts in Órzola. This 620 km trek crosses all Canary Islands. Accommodations are carefully chosen—small-scale, authentic fincas and casas rurales—offering a peaceful stay far from mass tourism.
