About La Gomera
La Gomera, easily accessible by ferry from Tenerife, is a hiker’s paradise rich in natural wonders. The island’s centerpiece is Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its ancient laurel forest. This mystical forest thrives in the park’s frequent fog, especially in winter, nurturing over 450 species of plants and trees. Hiking to Alto de Garajonay, the island’s highest peak at 1,478 meters, rewards visitors with breathtaking panoramic views.
Unique Cultural Experience: The Whistling Language
La Gomera is also known for its unique “Silbo Gomero,” a whistling language used by locals to communicate across the island’s deep valleys (barrancos). This fascinating cultural trait adds a special dimension to your hiking adventure.
Multi-days trekking
De GR131 Camino Natural La Gomera
From Tenerife, we take the ferry to La Gomera to hike the GR131 trail from east to west in three days. Afterward, we continue for two more days to complete the loop, returning to San Sebastián.
The GR131 La Gomera is the fifth island of the long distance route.
In the east of La Gomera, San Sebastián is the starting point of the GR131—a long-distance trek of 620 km crossing all the Canary Islands. Accommodations are carefully chosen here: small-scale and charming. We stay in traditional fincas, casas rurales, and an authentic mountain inn.
Difficulty Category ****
Highest point 1478 mt
This trek is quite challenging due to the many steep altimeters involved. Along the scenic route, we stay in carefully chosen accommodations, usually comfortable double rooms with private bathrooms. Single rooms are available for an extra fee. Breakfast is included every day.
